What is the Islamic Da'wah Council of the Philippines (IDCP)?
A federation of 98 Muslim Organizations throughout the Philippines An accredited Islamic Non-Government Organization (NGO) by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). An active member of:
 
Regional Islamic Da’wah Council of Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP)
World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY)
World Halal Council (WHC)
World Federation of Islamic Missions and others.
 
 
What is HALAL?
Halal is an Arabic term which means allowed, lawful, legal, or permissible under the Shariah (Islamic Law). This law is based on the Qur’an, Hadith (tradition of the Prophet Muhammad), Ijma (consensus), and Qiyas (deduction by analogy)
 
 
What is HALAL Food?
Halal food means food that is permitted under the Shariah (Islamic) Law. This law is based on the Qur’an, Hadith (tradition of the Prophet Muhammad). Ijma (consensus) and Qiyas (deduction by analogy). The qiyas approved by the relevant Islamic Authority also fulfills the following conditions:
 
a. Does not contain any component or raw materials from animals that is not Halal.
b. Does not contain any ingredient that is considered haram or najis (fithy).
c. During is preparation, processing or manufacturing, the tolls or equipments used must not be     contaminated by the product with ingredients which are considered haram or najis.
 
Halal certification is a certificate of compliance of the religious requirement observed by all Muslims worldwide.  It is now accepted scientifically that a Halal certificate is a guarantee of genuineness, best quality, wholesomeness, cleanliness, and best fit for human consumption.
 
This decision of the Supreme Court of the Philippines in G.R. No. 153888 is the authentic recognition of the Government of the Philippines that IDCP is the duly recognized HALAL authority in the country.
 
 
Haram
is also an Arabic term which means prohibited, unlawful, illegal or forbidden under the Shariah law.
 
 
Mashbooh
means doubtful or questionable which needs further investigation. It may fall either on Halal or Haram category. In Islam it is better to avoid things that are considered as Mashbooh.
 
 
THE FOLLOWING ARE CONSIDERED HARAM (UNLAWFUL)
   
 
1.  Pig, Dog, and their derivatives
2.  Domestic Donkey
3.  Carnivorous animals except animals that only eat fish.
4.
Animals with tusks, claws, fangs or protruding canine teeth such as monkeys, bears, cats, lions, elephants, etc.
5.  Amphibians such as frogs, crocodiles, turtles, seals, etc.
6.  Birds of prey with talons such as owls, eagles, vultures, etc.
7.
Undesirable or dirty creatures such as worms, flies, cockroaches, rats, centipede, and other similar creature
8.
Animals that are not allowed too be killed in Islam like ants, bees, and woodpecker birds
9.
Animals who died by headlong fall, strangulation, natural causes (carrion), or attacked by other animals
10.  Animals not slaughtered in Islamic Way.
11.  Blood
12.  Substances derived from the human body
13.   Alcoholic drinks and all forms of intoxicating and hazardous drinks
14.  Intoxicating and hazardous plants except when toxin is eliminate
15.  Substances harmful to health
 
 
HALAL SLAUGHTER PROCEDURE (ZABIHAH PROCEDURE)
   
 
1.
Slaughterman should be a practicing Muslim that has knowledge on halal slaughtering procedure.
2.  The animal to be slaughtered must be alive and in good health.
3.  The knife to be used for slitting must be very sharp.
4.
Slaughterman should recite the name of Allah such as “Bismillah Allahu Akbar” before slitting.
5.
The throat must be slitted quickly, the trachea, esophagus, jugular veins, and carotid arteries should be cut swiftly in one move to prevent animal from suffering. It must be ensured that the animal will have a complete bleeding.
